The Heartbreak Kid, Mr. Wrestlemania, The Icon, some of many Shawn Michaels' nicknames. I should add this one too: my favorite wrestler. Even though he's retired, in the WWE Hall of the Fame, all of his matches and history will always be remembered, he was that good. This figure, Entrance Greats Shawn Michaels, from Wrestlemania 12 was one of his career highlight match- the first ever 60 Minute Iron Man match with none other than Bret "The Hit Man" Hart. Now onto the review...
The figure comes in a pretty tall window box with a try me button on the side to play his entrance music. The back of the box features the origin of the entrance gear, of which Shawn Michaels came down from the rafters of the stadium into the crowd. A unique entrance that was sadly "imitated" later in WWE history with Owen Hart (RIP). The box also features the signature of Shawn Michaels, a picture of the figure, and a picture of Michaels soon after he captured the title belt.
The entrance gear itself is pretty bland. Nothing sparkling or glittering as a lot of Michaels' entrance gear he wore to the ring. The suit itself is made of mesh with a layer of pseudo looking leather material (I'm making that up, I don't really know what it is made of, perhaps fabricated fabric? (There is probably no such thing as fabricated plastic)). The material has printed on patterns trying to mimic the look, with no raised elements to the suit. The material with mesh is pretty thin looking, and depending on usage, it might even tear, but I am really hoping it wouldn't.
This suit is also removable to reveal the wrestling gear underneath. There is a velcro on his back, in which you can then slide off the sleeves, and followed by the pant leggings. The suit is a while, not a separate top and bottom. It fits snug, but taking off the leggings seem to stretch it a little while taking it off. This is probably where the mesh is useful, but I don't know how durable the material over the mesh will be after removing it over and over again.
The figure itself is really good and accurate. Again, no shiny elements but they did get silver and gold representing the metallic elements of the gear. The body sculpt is decent, not overly muscular, which is reality when it comes to Shawn Michaels' physique. The gloves/forearms and pants feature the gold and silver hearts. The rear of the figure has the same heart with the "Heartbreak Kid" in a stylized, kinda cursive, writing. The knee pads also have the same heart design. The left bicep tattoo is painted great. The boots are of less detail then the real boots he wore, but they painted the design on. Only missing app would have to be the O'NEAL running along the side, but overall, this figure is painted to top quality. The head sculpt haves him in a pony tail, which is fine, and as usual, they have his face with tired looking eyes, and a barely open mouth that shows a row of teeth. Something about it looks like Shawn Michaels to say the least.
Articulation is decent for a wrestling figure. Nothing to call it highly possible, but enough to have some poses. He features a balljoint neck; ball hinged shoulders; swivel biceps, upper wrist, waist, shins; hinged elbows, lower wrist, hips, knees, and ankles. You can't get him really get him in his signature stance, because the hips don't spread out, but it's doable if you don't mind his awkward leg positions.
The only accessory is a base. It plays his entrance music extremely loud from a small speaker, which makes it unclear at times. The sticker that sports the WWF Wrestlemania XII logo is off center and a bit to high. The steel stair design is the top design of the base, with a single peg to put either foot.
Recommendation: Totally worth a look in your Ross store. At $7.99 for a $20 figure it makes the deal sweeter. Mattel could have just made the entrance gear, and do a crappy job of his ring gear, but they didn't. This is a high quality figure, with great paints apps. As a Shawn Michaels' fan I am biased to recommend this, but even if you're not a fan, it's certainly nice to have a figure who played such a major role in WWF/WWE history.
